GUIDELINES FOR YOGA CLASS
These guidelines will help you feel more comfortable when entering the studio. They are based on common sense and courtesy, but deal with issues specific to yoga studios/classes.
- REMOVE YOUR SHOES
Since people will be walking around the studio barefoot, it is most hygienic to remove outdoor shoes.
- TURN OFF YOUR CELL PHONES
Make a habit of doing this upon arrival. Ringing phones are distracting and rude.
- ARRIVE ON TIME
Arrive at least 10 minutes before class to get settled and centered.
-
RESPECT THE TEACHER
Follow the teacher's instructions; take breaks when needed either in child's pose or savasana. Looking around the room creates chatter in the mind and distracts other students.
- DON'T COMPARE YOURSELF WITH OTHERS
Yoga is noncompetitive. It's OK to look to your neighbor for guidance but, never for comparison.
- TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF
Modify the postures as needed. Only you truly know your limits.
- ARRIVE ON AN EMPTY STOMACH
If you must eat before class eat lightly about an hour before class begins.
- DON'T SKIP SAVASANA!
Final relaxation is crucial to your practice. Don't plan to leave class early. If you must, take a short Savasana before your exit. Don't make it a habit as it is a distraction to the rest of the class.
- BRING A YOGA MAT, WATER BOTTLE, AND TOWEL
If you don't have these items you can rent them for $1.00; however it is a good idea to have your own mat that works best for you. You can purchase water for $1.00 if you forget to bring your bottle. Blocks and Straps can be used at no cost; however, supply is limited.
